Music Director Vacancy

The City of Wolverhampton Choir are seeking to appoint a musically accomplished individual with experience of choral music as our new Music Director. The post has recently become available and we are looking to appoint someone from September but would be happy to hear from candidates who are able to start sooner.

The membership of the choir ranges from young adults to senior citizens and currently numbers about 45 (un-auditioned). We meet to rehearse on Mondays at Cranmer Methodist Church in Wolverhampton from 7.15 to 9.15 pm although there is some flexibility here if required.

The choir aims to perform three concerts per year encompassing a wide range of musical styles and genres, please look at the Past page for information about previous performances. We enjoy developing our repertoire and seek a director with the ability to deliver exciting and enjoyable rehearsals and performances.

Our outgoing MD established a fresh atmosphere that has been extremely welcome and we are very much looking for a candidate who can continue this, connecting with the choir as people. The MD will need to maintain a warm and friendly environment to support the necessary work on the material being prepared. We are conscious that the choir is made up of people who pay for their involvement as a key leisure activity and want an MD who understands and appreciates the importance of this as they work with the choir.

The MD will work closely with the choir committee in determining the future of the choir and future programmes. We are financially constrained and would be interested to hear how applicants would deal with this and what ideas they may have for putting on performances that are not dependent on a high financial outlay.

If you are interested in applying for the position, please submit your CV with a covering letter explaining why you think you might be suitable for this post.

Closing Date: 25th April 2014
